Subject: Testifying against Bill 112 and Bill 115

Aloha, my name is Avalon Paradea and I was raised in and continue to reside in Waik6loa Village. I am writing to
oppose both Bill 112 and Bill 115. While I am not thrilled with the many golf courses that currently exist,they are far
less problematic than the proposal to build 900 new timeshare units. Even before the global COVID pandemic struck,
our island has suffered under the weight of millions of visitors and part-time residents who do nothing to contribute to
our community. I am tired of seeing dollar signs as a supposed trade-off for these groups of people placing increased
stress on our ecosystems and roads. And what does 140 "affordable" units mean? The vagueness of this claim is
insulting. I am a 30 year old working adult who has to live with my brother, mother, and husband in order to keep a
roof over our heads. Why are locals forever being pushed out, or forced to squish together, to make ends meet, while
outsiders are constantly invited in? This doesn't even begin to touch on the impacts these developments pose
regarding the health of native ecosystems. Please, do better. Think about current residents and the wellbeing of our
unique anchialine ponds, coastal bird species, and coral reefs first and foremost.
