Subject: Kumu Hou
Kudo's to Kristi Van Pernis for voicing her opinion to the County through newspaper media regarding the planned timeshare increase
development; Kumu Hou.
Everything that I am learning about this development looks as if most of the enjoyment from this will be to the developer.
The amount of infrastructure to support such a large development in a community is not even discussed if the shear#of people that
this development can entertain in a week, per unit,can be as much as 4,500 per unit! As we stand today on the Big Island,we are
already taxing the school system, medical system, lack of affordable housing(this is a huge subject alone)and fire department
services, road and park maintenance...
I would agree with Kristi in asking the council and planning to stand back and take a deep breath, have a cognizant conversation that
identifies more areas for affordable housing,workforce housing as well as buildings that can be repurposed for the homeless. Let's
seriously look at the water this project will use(without punishing the Waimea residents)the traffic it will create and the
infrastructure mess.These things and workforce housing should be properly figured out without a green light go ahead or permits
being issued.
Please defer this project until all of these important issues are resolved and the people of the Big Island have an opportunity to
decide if they think this project is what our island home needs.
