Subject: Kill Bills 112 and 115
'I
Aloha council members,
I
I'm writing in opposition to the rezoning proposed in Bill 112 (0595) and Bill 115 (0601) which, together, would
rezone almost 200 waikoloa acres.
The proposal doesn't address the needs of West Hawaii and would, in fact, exacerbate what's lacking including
adequate infrastructure (roads, water, sewage and water treatment, open space (including green, publicly usable,
recreational space), and other natural and manmade resources needed to support such a massive development.
i
It's clear that what our island needs to prioritize immediately—especially in Waikoloa makai—is truly affordable,
workforce housing. At this point, the only development plan I could support is that which strictly provides that kind
of housing without any new vacation or high-end housing. Period.
One can't help but note that this development company created a 501c3 to which they can "donate" and receive a tax
break. How shady is that? Is this the kind of company we want taking part in the business of development and
planning on our island?I think not.
This project should be a "no-go."Time for this body to kill the proposal so we can stop wasting government and
public time and money and get back to the work of achieving the goals of intelligent land use planning that will save,
rather than sink, our island and island communities.
Mahalo and sincerely,y p
