Dear Council Members -
3
I
Converting ground transportation from polluting fossil fuel burning vehicles to clean electric and hydrogen vehicles is
a major part of Hawaii's dedication to protect the health of its citizens and to reduce the severity of the climate change
that threatens unprecedented damage to our homes and businesses, as well as the natural environment upon which our
lives depend. In Hawaii County this conversion is happening at an extremely low pace which will not allow us to
meet our goals. This is largely due to inadequate charging infrastructure which leaves residents without confidence
that they will be able to conveniently charge their vehicles or even to complete their intended drives. I am writing this
as a resident who wished and intended to purchase an electric vehicle last year, but instead purchased a (more
polluting)plug-in hybrid, with Hawaii County's poor charging infrastructure as a major factor in that decision. I urge
you to pass the EV charging bill, so that state law may serve its intended purpose, and for the future of our citizens,
our keiki, and our aina.
Sincerely,
Doug Perrine
