Dear County Council Members of the Public Works and Mass Transit Committee,
My name is Ron Reilly, I live in Volcano Village. I am an EV owner, now for over six years, and I fully support Bill 120 to help provide
and maintain dedicated EV parking spaces and EV charging stations.
Most of my EV charging is done at home, with energy supplied by roof top solar, however, in consideration of condominium
dwellers, Hawaii Island renters, those who may not be able to afford roof top solar, and visitors, it is clear that more public charging
stations are urgently needed so we can continue to rapidly electrify ground transportation.
Bill 120 will help big box stores, and many others, comply with the intent of ACT 25 by providing for sensible county enforcement.
This will mean that broken chargers will not be allowed to sit unmaintained for years as is the case in one big box Hilo location, and
multiple locations of a big box retailer will each have to have the required number of EV parking stalls and operative EV chargers. I'm
happy to congratulate Hilo Target for being an excellent example for others to follow.
I look forward to a day when the majority of the Hawaii's vehicles are fully battery powered, are plug in electric, and are supplied by
an clean electric grid powered by renewables such as wind, solar, and geothermal. Hopefully the days of burning dirty fossil fuels
(and proposed biomass)are soon behind us.
CD
Mahalo for your consideration of Bill 120, Ron Reilly
