Aloha Committee members,
I have been driving an electric car on the Big Island since 2018 and have experienced many issues with the available
public chargers. The HELCO Waimea charger has been out of service twice in that time, Hilo, Mauna Lani and Kona
stations have also been down, and it takes weeks or months for a repair. Apps showing whether a station is in or out
of service are unreliable.
It is also a pity that there is only ONE charging unit at each location. Many many times I have had to wait for my
turn.
I do not understand why our leaders can't see far enough ahead to realize that, within five year or so,most car makers
will be making ONLY electric cars.
The lack of infrastructure is clearly holding back the adoption of electric cars on the Big Island.
