Subject: Support Bill 120
Council,
I'm a retired County engineer with an electric vehicle(EV), 2018 Nissan Leaf that lives in Hilo. I've been driving this vehicle for
the past 4 years. With that experience, I've learned what works and what doesn't in regard to charging stations. Having an
adequate number of charging stations as well as them being strategically located is the key for EV adoption, as well as having
access to affordable vehicles.
My main two issues with public charging stations are that there isn't enough of them and two, individuals parking in the space
that have ICE(internal combustion engine-gas powered). There is no penalty for doing so- parking in a charging station with
an ICE vehicle. This type of space is a valuable resource for those with EV's. It's very discouraging to have an ICE vehicle in an
EV charging space, especially when you need the charge to run errands and/or get home. This bill becomes even more
important for those who live in apartment and condos. They may not have access to charging stations and rely on other public
and private stations. Therefore, I encourage you to support Bill 120.
Mahalo for your support,
