Subject: Bill 125: Dangerous Dogs
Aloha,
I'm writing in SUPPORT of Bill no 125 relating to dangerous dogs.
This bill is needed to strengthen the penalties for dogs that cause serious injuries
and death to people and other animals in Hawaii County.
I reside in Puna District and aggressive loose dogs are a big problem here.
I have been attacked before by an aggressive pit bull that escaped its fenced yard through a hole
and then attacked my small dog. It was terrifying. As I picked up my dog to save him from the pit bill,
the pit bull started jumping on me and scratching me trying to further attack my dog. yR
I've also been chased by aggressive dogs going on walks in my neighborhood in Pahoa. as
We recently had an elderly woman mauled to death by aggressive dogs in HPP then a little girl
almost mauled to death in Fern Forest. We must do more to hold the owners of these dogs accountable.
Sadly dogs are not naturally born killers, they are trained to be this way by constant chaining which j
creates aggression as well as intentional dog fighting and pig hunting packs. All 3 of these practices
create these killer dogs that threaten us all.
We need this bill. Please pass it. We also desperately need a massive scale spay and neuter program
for Big Island to control the dog and cat overpopulation problem as well as humane animal education.
This could be done via radio ads and local news station programs about these issues.
ThankY ou,
