Subject: Bill 125 regarding dog attacks
To Whom It May Concern:
I support a bill that will hold those people owning vicious dogs accountable although I don't believe it goes to the root
of the problem.
Dogs are not born vicious but rather trained to behave that way. Many of you have seen dogs tied up, neglected,
abused and mistreated by their owners. This kind of environment creates hostile and aggressive behavior.
Hunting dogs are taught to viciously kill bait dogs in training for actual hunting which is pathetic and cruel on the part
of the so called hunters.
When these dogs get loose, of course their going to attack the elderly couple walking their little dog. They've been
trained to do that. They cannot tell the difference from when to/when not to attack.
Sure, with this proposed bill you can now punish those whose dogs attack and kill innocent people and their pets, but
those dogs' behavior will still be an issue as long as people are allowed to train their dogs to become vicious and
ruthless killers.
Also, if some people need a vicious dog to make them feel more powerful with the need to instill fear in others then
this behavior will still continue. We've all seen the people with for example pit bulls who teach their dog to be mean
and threatening. And now that poor breed has gotten a bad reputation.
Maybe more marketing in teaching people that these activities are all animal cruelty which then impacts innocent
people and pets. Maybe trying to change this "way of life"that has so penetrated society. Maybe creating rules that
are enforceable to prevent this vicious cycle, not sure how but at least having an honest discussion is a start.
Often times it's difficult to look at our behavior, acknowledge that just because something has been done for so long
doesn't make it right.
