I live on Hoku St. in Downtown Hilo. I have a neighbor that has a lot of dogs that bark and howl all day and night.These dogs
are apparently for hunting, but they don't ever seem to leave the chains they are on, locked up without end. It's truly sad to
hear these poor dog cry and know that noone will ever help them.
A few years ago one of these dogs got loose in the neighborhood. I was in the drive way with some of my housernates when
this dog came at us viciously barking at us. All we could do was stand still because every time we tried to move the dog would
run at that person and intimidate us. VVewere frozen like this for about half hour, until the owner came tofetch the dog.The
owner told me that the dog was friendly and to let it sniff my hand. I slowly put our my hand out and the dog bit it.The owner
got control ofthe dog and took it back to it's torture of being locked up. We are very lucky that the children next door were
not outside playing.
My point is that locking up and mistreating dogs really is a source of this issue. Maybe hunting dogs shouldn't be living in the !
city. Maybe people shouldn't have so many dogs that they can't possibly take care of, and care for. When dog does not get
love it will only know hate.
People should beheld responsible for the actions oftheir hateful dogs. C=
