Resolution 363-22 Authorizing A Decrease
In the Hawaii County Fuel Tax s&
At a time when fuel prices are at record highs, and inflation is the highest since the 1980s, the
proposed decrease in the fuel tax will provide some needed relief to the people of our County.
There are many costs that the County cannot control but fuel tax can be partially influenced by the
County. Hence, this action is responsible and in the best interest of our community, given the State
surplus and other available funding sources.
It has been noted that there isn't a sundown date in the resolution, however, I submit that there also
aren't sundown dates in tax increases. This concern can be easily addressed by amending the law
when and if conditions warrant the need to do so.
I wholeheartedly endorse and support the purpose and intent of the subject resolution.
