Aloha Hawaii County Council Finance Chair Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder and fellow Council Members,

I strongly urge the Finance Committee not to pass Resolution 363-22.
Yes,the cost of gasoline has skyrocketed, but this is not a good reason to reduce the county's fuel tax 10 cents. If this decrease is
authorized,the county will have defer resurfacing more county roads.
This will cost more in the long run than any short term cost savings.
Those long term costs include additional vehicle repair expenses incurred because of poor roadway conditions.
The proposed resolution states the county can seek grants to back fill any shortfall.This is not a viable solution.These grant
programs are usually very competitive with other jurisdictions, and won't be a long term solution for any funding decreases.
As a result,this means more county roads won't be maintained in a timely manner.
