Aloha ountCouncil,
I want to testify that I am in support for Holeka Goro Inaba's request to
amend Bill 115 to require an additional 250 affordable rental units to be
developed before the 451 st timeshare is permitted.
The affordable rental market in Kona is nil. The average rentaUratdp,
have skyrocketed here is what I saw the prices range W
studios $1500-$3000
1 bedroom $2000-$4000
2 bedrooms $2500-$5000
3 bedrooms $3000-$6000 �v
What local can afford this? especially a single mom. So many are
moving to the Mainland because they can no longer afford to live in
Hawaii. Since the start of the pandemic about 30,000 residents have
moved out of state and 30,000 out of state people have moved to
Hawaii and this is not residents returning.
These newbies are mainly people who can work remote and because
of the shortage of affordable rentals they offer the landlords more than
the advertised price and some even pay 6 months in advance. No local
can beat that. Landlords want to get in the action and make back what
they lost during the moratorium and giving 45 days notice so they can
get a piece of the action.
If nothing is done than more will move out of state.. who will fill their
jobs? Not the newbies, they work remote.. the shortage of workers will
increase and businesses will suffer. Comm. No. t

By approving ill 115, it will provide moreaffordable
rentals. ill not be a permanentr it will be a step in the right
direction recovery. I had my way I would add that the rentals
to go to BigIsland residents who have lived in County for at least
years.. I don't wantit go to newbies. My personal feelings, if they
want to move here let them pay.
I have 2 truestories that are happeningright now. One family of (
children) could not afford the rental and are now living in their vehicle,
they had sent their 3 keikis to live with their grandparents in Hilo away
from their friends. Second story is a daughter who is caring for her
ailing 77 year old mother and was given a 45 days notice. She can live
in her car but what can she do with her ailing mother? She can afford
1200 max andthat is not enough for a studio.
Thank you for your time and I hope, wish and pray that Bill 115 is
amended. Let's make that step.
