My name is Mahina Behasa and I am writing this testimony in favor of the West Hawaii Vietnam Veterans
Memorial to be set at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery.
I am the daughter and granddaughter of 2 brave veterans. Growing up I always knew that I was proud to
have a veteran father but as a kid didn't know how truly special it was. I always knew he was a hero but it
wasn't until I became an adult that I learned about the sacrifices and impact war could have on a person.
With this new perspective came a whole new level of respect and gratitude.
Vietnam veterans have had a different type of stigma and although they may have not had the welcome
home that other heroes had, creating a beautiful memorial at our local veteran cemeteiy may give them
something to visit and remember how special they are. This memorial is long overdue at the West Hawaii
Veterans Cemetery.
