Konowicz, Chairperson,Hawai'i County Cost of Government <br /> Commission <br /> SUBJECT: Hawai'i Cost of Government Commission Progress <br /> The purpose of this communication is to share with you the status of the Cost of Government <br /> Commission, which is now beginning its fourth month of meetings for the 2022 calendar year.We are <br /> looking forward to sharing our final report and recommendations with you and the Mayor later this year. <br /> After a series of meetings,conversations, and presentations, including reviewing the findings and <br /> recommendations from past commissions,the Cost of Government Commission identified three priority <br /> focus areas, one secondary focus area, and four tertiary focus areas for us to explore to identify any cost <br /> savings or any other efficiency measures can be achieved. <br /> PRIMARY FOCUS AREAS: <br /> -Permitting/Construction/Licensing <br /> -Environmental Management/Solid Waste/Wastewater <br /> -Information Technology/Automation/Electronic Records!Digital Payments <br /> SECONDARY FOCUS AREA: <br /> -Car and Vehicle Costs/Vehicle Types/Vehicle Maintenance <br /> TERTIARY FOCUS AREAS: <br /> -Water System Efficiency/Well&Pipe Maintenance <br /> -Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources(PONC)Expenditures <br /> -Roads/Transportation/Public Works <br /> -Optimizing Number of Commissions/Boards <br /> If any Council Member and/or their constituents have additional areas that we should evaluate,please let <br /> me know.
