No. 718 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 1:44 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 718, reports as <br /> follows: <br /> Communication No. 718, transmitted by Mayor Mitchell D. Roth dated March 28, 2022, <br /> nominates Kaweni Ibarra to the Ka`u Community Development Plan Action Committee <br /> (CDPAC). <br /> Ms. Pomaika`i Bartolome, Executive Assistant to Mayor Roth, was present via Zoom to <br /> introduce Mr. Ibarra. She shared that Mr. Ibarra is a graduate of Ka`u High School and offers a <br /> background in Anthropology. Currently the Education Specialist for Malama `Rina Foundation <br /> and Cultural Specialist for Na Mamo o Kawa, Mr. Ibarra is committed to positively contributing <br /> to the future of Ka`u. Growing up in the region provided experiences of strength and hardship- <br /> instilling the value of taking initiative and finding solutions by empowering and uplifting the <br /> community's greatest strengths. Mr. Ibarra's community service includes Ka`u Advisory <br /> Council, Ka`u Multicultural Society, `Aha Moku Council, Hana Laulima Lahui o Ka`u, and <br /> Na Mamo o Kawa. <br /> Mr. Ibarra was present before Your Committee in the Kona Chambers and explained that he <br /> would not be who he is if not for his Ka`u community, and that he is passionate and interested in <br /> building a strong foundation for the next generations growing up there. <br /> Committee Member Maile David expressed that his statement of Ka`u being instrumental in <br /> who he is was inspiring, and that is the true spirit of the community. She went on to state that <br /> Mr. Ibarra is a great nominee. <br /> Committee Chair Ashley Kierkiewicz appreciated the youth perspective Mr. Ibarra would bring <br /> to the CDPAC, and that his service in this capacity hopefully inspires his peers to get involved in <br /> their community. <br /> The vote was then taken on the motion to move this measure to Council with a favorable <br /> recommendation and passed with nine "ayes." <br /> PC Report No.: 62 <br />
