No. 715 PLACE: Council Chambers Kailua-Kona, Hawaii TIME: 1:44 p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 715, reports as follows: Communication No. 715, transmitted by Mayor Mitchell D. Roth dated March 28, 2022, nominates Ka`ohinani Mokuhali`i to the Ka`u Community Development Plan Action Committee (CDPAC). Ms. Pomaika`i Bartolome, Executive Assistant to Mayor Roth, was present via Zoom and introduced Ms. Mokuhali`i. She shared that Ms. Mokuhali`i has been a resident of Hawaii for more than 60 years. She has worked for the Department of Education at Pahala and N5'51ehu Elementary School. She also worked at the Dairy, and is currently employed as Ranch Manager at Kuahiwi Ranch Beef and Feed. She is the Owner of KM Farm and Ranch Services. Ms. Mokuhali`i has dedicated more than 30 years of volunteerism and community service to the Ka`u Farm Bureau, the Ka`u Soil and Water Conservation, Waikapuna Heritage Preserve Steward Committee, Kaunamano Heritage Preserve Steward Committee, and Hawaii Historical Preservation. If confirmed, she will serve a term ending December 31, 2024. Ms. Mokuhali`i was present before Your Committee in the Kona Chambers and thanked Your Committee for its time. She explained that Ka`u is a very special place and that she is honored to be a part of guiding the community into the future. She has been heavily involved in the creation of the Ka`u CDP and is grateful to make a difference and share her mana`o. Committee Member Maile David voiced her support for Ms. Mokuhali`i's nomination and explained that she believes the future of Ka`u is in good hands with the slate of nominees. Committee Member Tim Richards explained how he sees Ka`u and Kohala as similar communities, and praised the Administration for a great selection of nominees. Committee Chair Ashley Kierkiewicz thanked Ms. Mokuhali`i for her willingness to take on more community service, and highlighted her work in food systems and strengthening community as good grounding for her work on the Ka`u CDPAC. PC Report No.: 59 PC-59 Page 2 April 19,2022 The vote was then taken on the motion to move this measure to Council with a favorable recommendation and passed with nine"ayes."
