No. 714 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 1:44 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 714, reports as <br /> follows: <br /> Communication No. 714, transmitted by Mayor Mitchell D. Roth dated March 28, 2022, <br /> nominates Catherine Williams to the Ka`u Community Development Plan Action Committee <br /> (CDPAC). <br /> Ms. Pomaika`i Bartolome, Executive Assistant to Mayor Roth, was present via Zoom to <br /> introduce Ms. Williams. She shared that Ms. Williams has been a resident of Hawaii for <br /> 40 years. She earned her Master's degree in Theater Production from the University of Hawaii <br /> at Hilo and graduated from Humboldt State University with her Certification in Teaching. She <br /> is the former Executive Director of Hilo Community Players and is currently an Academic <br /> Literacy Coach at Pahala Elementary. Ms. Williams served with the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, <br /> dedicating more than 20 years of active service working in addiction recovery. She holds a deep <br /> love for the community of Ka`u, which she calls home. If confirmed, she will serve a term <br /> ending December 31, 2026. <br /> Ms. Williams was present before Your Committee in the Kona Chambers via Zoom and spoke of <br /> her previous work in service to children and adults with addiction recovery. She believes it is <br /> important to uplift youth voices and is excited to further serve her community. <br /> Committee Member Maile David voiced her support for Ms. Williams and highlighted her <br /> community service will bring diverse representation of youth and kupuna. <br /> Committee Chair Ashley Kierkiewicz praised Ms. Williams for her service to our country, <br /> commitment to the betterment of keiki and appetite to take on more work. <br /> The vote was then taken on the motion to move this measure to Council with a favorable <br /> recommendation and passed with nine "ayes." <br /> PC Report No.: 58 <br />
