Richards, III, providing contingency funding for the Food Rescue Community Feeding
program
Aloha,
For the past two-plus years Friends of the Future has served as the fiscal sponsor for the Food Rescue Community Feeding
Program and its companion Grab n Go mobile community meals program.
During that time we have witnessed the tremendous positive impact a small number of volunteers have made in the lives of
literally thousands of North Kohala children and families, as well as the small businesses and restaurants that have been able
to keep their doors open.
Restaurants, businesses and grocery stores contact the program coordinator whenever they have unused food that meets
health and safety guidelines for redistribution. Restaurants prepare simple pre-packaged meals at significantly discounted
prices. Tens of thousands of meals have been prepared, packaged and distributed to those in need, all done without fanfare by
a
loyal group of volunteers.
All the contingency funds go directly to food and supplies; there are no administration or personnel costs. Support for this
program
makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our families, and I urge you to positively consider Resolution 373-22 put forth by
Council Member Richards.
