Kohala Project Grad 2022

Aloha County Council Members:
My name is Kathleen Matsuda. I became the first chairman to bring Kohala Project Grad
i
to the graduates in 2010 for my daughters class. My daughter wanted a safe event, and a last
night for her and her classmates to be together. Her classmates were hesitant at first because
after graduation is known to be a party night, and to hop to each party. We couldn't do a
surprise event because they wouldn't attend. We had them create a wish list, and made it fun
to what they liked.
Kohala Project Grad is now a tradition for each senior class.The last night together as a
whole class before stepping out into the world. Covid stopped the last 2 graduating classes
from having their night. Class of 2022 has the opportunity to enjoy their last year, and they
are so yearning for it.
Our tradition is also to go to sunrise at Pololu Valley. We bus the grads after a safe,
alcohol and drug free event to Pololu for breakfast and a last group picture. I have heard
stories prior to project grad, but incidents never reported.
Please approve Resolution 374-22 for our 2022 Kohala High School
Project Grad Night. Mahalo for your time.
