HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 425 Draft 01 2020-2022 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA O PUNA FOR SIGNAGE FOR ITS UBRAN PERMACULTURE GARDEN. WHEREAS, Malama O Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect critical habitat, native species, open spaces, and traditional cultural landscapes for future generations; and WHEREAS, Malama O Puna is seeking support for design and installation of informational signage at its 5,000 square foot urban permaculture garden in Pāhoa; and WHEREAS, since May of 2021, Malama O Puna has been hosting several garden tours to educate the community on the development of agricultural ecosystems intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient and desires informational signage that explains permaculture concepts like “zones”, composting, and companion planting that would allow the public to visit the garden outside of its formal tours; and WHEREAS, Malama O Puna is requesting funds for signage for its urban permaculture garden; and WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Parks and Recreation, is to provide and/or facilitate a wide array of services and opportunities that meet the needs of the Big Island community while maintaining cultural uniqueness of our rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Malama O Puna for signage for its urban permaculture garden. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General       AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION:  $2,000       OUT AND FROM:    010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC – Contingency Relief $2,000      CREDITED TO:    010.500.5503.02 Department of Parks and Recreation P&R Admin OCE $2,000   115 Misc. Contract Services    (Malama O Puna- Signage for its urban permaculture garden)    BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
