HAWAIʻI INC. TO PURCHASE UNIFORMS FOR THE ATHLETES OF SPECIAL OLYMPICS EAST HAWAI‘I.
WHEREAS, Special Olympics East Hawai‘i is a division of Special Olympics Hawai‘i Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics East Hawaiʻi is an organization whose mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children
and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts,
skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawaiʻi Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that raises funds all year-round, providing opportunities for physical fitness, sports training, and athletic
competition and recreation through local area, state, regional, and international programs; and
WHEREAS, due to the prolonged duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, Special Olympics Hawaiʻi Inc. was unable to sponsor any fundraising events or activities to raise monies for its programs,
and is requesting financial assistance to purchase uniforms for the athletes of Special Olympics East Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations and programs that promote health, wellness, growth, and learning in a drug-free and alcohol-free environment; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to Special Olympics Hawaiʻi Inc. to purchase uniforms for the athletes of Special Olympics East Hawai‘i.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
