No. 415-22 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 1:09 P.M. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Resolution No. 415-22,reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 415-22,transmitted by Council Member Maile Medeiros David via Communication No. 800 <br /> dated May 11, 2022, authorizes the Director of Finance to enter into negotiations for the acquisition of land <br /> or a conservation easement for property identified as Tax Map Key 8-7-001:002 situated in the ahupua`a of <br /> Ka`ohe and known as Wai`ohe, District of South Kona, utilizing the Public Access, Open Space, and <br /> Natural Resources Preservation Fund. <br /> The County seeks to acquire approximately 220 acres of land to protect the old growth of`Ohi`a trees and <br /> habitat for the Hawaiian Hawk,the Hawaiian Hoary Bat, and other endemic bird and plant species. This <br /> parcel is listed as priority number 15 for purchase in the 2021 Annual Report of the Public Access, Open <br /> Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission(PONC). <br /> Committee Member Maile Medeiros David provided a brief background on the measure. <br /> Per Committee Member Holeka Goro Inaba's request, Corporation Counsel Elizabeth A. Strance and <br /> Finance Director Deanna S.
