SUBJECT: Amendment to Section 2 of Bill No. 174; An Ordinance to Initiate an Amendment
to Article VI of the Hawai`i County Charter(2020 Edition), by adding a new
chapter to establish a Department of Building.
Please see proposed amendments to Bill No. 174 below. The proposed amendments are
illustrated in Ramseyer format with respect to the contents of Bill No. 174; (material to be
removed is bracketed and stricken and new material is underscored)
SECTION 2 of Bill No. 174 is amended by amending the proposed new section titled
"Powers, Duties, and Functions"to read as follows:
"Section . Powers,Duties, and Functions.
The department of building shall [--. -r.- :. : ' :.` :'-: $- ' - . -:
inspection;]:
(1) Manage plans, specifications and applications for private building and
construction;
(2) Be responsible for the issuance of all plumbing, electrical and building
permits;
(3) [ - -- - - - Enforce all county ordinances related to building,
construction[;] and inspection;
(4) [process] Process sign applications and variances; and
[exercise] Exercise other functions as prescribed by the mayor or prescribed
by ordinance."
Due to the limited scope of these amendments, a draft copy of the bill that would result if these
proposed amendments are adopted is not attached.
