The Community Alliance Partners is a coalition of Hawaii Island homeless service providers, x�. ,
government representatives, and community stakeholders working together in partnership to
end homelessness.
The Community Alliance Partners strongly supports bills 152 and 153. We support the Count
Council's multiple efforts to address our affordable housing shortage and increase support fob, `
those who are unable to afford housing. en
Today, affordable housing is really just housing. Housing in Hawaii County is quickly becoming
out-of-reach for many of our working families and individuals.Young parents with young children
are often the most economically challenged households and least able to afford the high cost of
housing. Even with well-paying jobs, it can be difficult for parents to make ends meet.
Housing unaffordability coupled with the high cost of living in Hawaii, is resulting in a "Brain
Drain" as more and more Hawaii born individuals and families between the ages of 18 and 44
with bachelor's degrees or higher leave Hawaii to live in the continental US.
Bills 152 and 153 can help us begin to construct affordable housing that will offer the next
generation the opportunity to remain and build their lives in Hawaii.
Once again, Community Alliance Partners supports bills 152 and 153. We thank the County
Council for taking action to fund and support programs that increase housing inventory to
ensure that there is affordable housing for individuals and families at all stages of life and
financial levels.
