RE: STRONG SUPORT Bill 167
Dear Chair Rebecca Villegas, Co-Chair Heather Kimball, and members of the Committee on
Climate Resilience & Natural Management:
As the co-founder of Legacy Reef Foundation, a coral preservation and restoration non-profit
based in Kona,Hawaii,we believe this bill is in the best interest of our struggling coral reefs.
Healthy coral reefs protect our island's coastal infrastructure, beaches, and community. The
chemical compounds contained in non-mineral sunscreen inhibit coral growth and degrade the
integrity of our reefs. This ordinance aims to preserve the health, safety, and welfare of humans
and the environment by allowing only mineral sunscreens to be provided, sold, offered for sale,
or distributed in the County.
I submit my testimony in strong support of Bill 167.
