Subject: Sunscreen and the impact on our reefs
Aloha!
During a recent visit to Hapuna Beach on a relatively calm day I was shocked as to the amount of sunscreen in the water. I could
not only smell it while swimming but a sheen of sunscreen was apparent on the surface where swimmers were. I don't believe
the hotels are selling reef safe sunscreen and a recent shopping trip to Costco found sunscreen by the truckload that had no
apparent label as to being reef safe.
Hawaii has become the go to place in these times we are in and the ocean is a big draw. The visiting tourist and some residents
Won't regulate themselves to the degree needed to ensure our reef's safety. There are way too many other circumstances
affecting their health that we may not be able to control but this one addition thing we can...
Please vote to support Bill 167 and demand compliance by the retailers and manufacturers.
