Support for Bill 167
Healthy coral reefs are literally the life blood of our community. Our economy, well-being, beaches, coastal
infrastructure and so much more, depend on the beauty, health and integrity of our nearshore reefs. We have known
for awhile now that many of the chemicals used in modern sunscreens are significantly deleterious to
reef organisms. Their impacts range from life-changing endocrine disruption to the outright killing coral polyps and
the animal and plant life they depend on.
This proposed ordinance rightly seeks to preserve the health, safety and welfare of our community and our essential
marine ecosystems by allowing only mineral-based sunscreens to be offered for sales or distributed in our County.
Please pass this important piece of legislation. ,
