Dear Hawai`i County Council Chair Rebecca Villegas, Co-Chair Heather Kimball, and members of the Committee on
Climate Resilience &Natural Management,
When there are healthy coral reefs, they protect the island's coastal infrastructure,beaches, and community. The
environment and the safety of others are important, but if members of the community are using non-mineral sunscreen
- it'll only hurt the reefs of the island because of the harmful chemicals that are contained in the sunscreen. If non-
mineral sunscreens are going to continue to be sold by stores,the community will be harmed by the ingredients of the
sunscreen. To reduce the usage of non-reef-safe sunscreen, it'd be best to only allow mineral sunscreen to be
provided, sold, offered for sale, or to be distributed in the County.
