Aloha Council Testimony,
I am in Strong Support of Bill 167, AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 14 OF THE HAWAI`I COUNTY
CODE 1983 (2016 EDITION, AS AMENDED), BY ADDING A NEW ARTICLE RELATING TO PROHIBITION
OF NON-MINERAL SUNSCREEN.
I have worked on and in the water off and on for over 20 years in Kailua Kona. I have taught snuba diving for over 8
years now and I have seen the destruction of our coral reef first hand for over 20 years. For years I have seen the
' sheen on the water from sunscreen that is helping to kill our coral reef. It is time we stand to support the very coral so
many people come to the island to enjoy and the very coral that also gives us life. It is time we seriously stepped up to
help our coral reefs.
