Subject: TESTIMONY IN STRONG SUPPORT BILL 167
Attn: Chair Rebecca Villegas, Co-Chair Heather Kimball, and members of the Committee on Climate Resilience &
Natural Management.
Healthy coral reefs protect Hawaii's coastal infrastructure, beaches, and community. The chemical
compounds contained in non-mineral sunscreen inhibit coral growth and degrade the integrity of
our reefs. This ordinance aims to preserve the health, safety, and welfare of humans and the environment
by allowing only mineral sunscreens to be provided, sold, offered for sale, or distributed in the County.
I really can't believe that toxic sunscreens are STILL available for sale in Hawai'i. They spray them on and
jump right into the ocean. I see it time and time again. Shameful.
I submit my testimony in strong support of Bill 167. Pzt
