I am from Hilo and I live in Kailua Kona Hawai`i. I am a 7 grade student at Ke Kula `o `Ehunuikaimalino. In science class we learned about the Kumulipo, the coral and about mo`oku`auhau. I am writing to you today because I heard that Bill 167 is being discussed by the County council, and I am writing to ask for your Kokua (support) of this bill. The reason this bill is important to me is because the coral is really important to the ocean, and I want to help the coral to grow to make the water beautiful again. Healthy coral reefs help to protect our island community. The chemicals in non-mineral sunscreen inhibit coral growth and degrade the integrity of our reefs. This bill aims to preserve the health, safety, and welfare of humans and the environment by allowing only mineral sunscreens to be provided, sold, offered for sale, or distributed in the County. I submit my testimony in strong support of Bill 167. `Irk U, • Comm. No. -11 t• t11 Ref.To: P Otts1 ittA(1 1 Ref. Date MAY 1 7 2022
