Aloha Councilmember Sue Lee Loy, Chair, and members of the Human Services and Social Services Committee:
We are grateful to the County of Hawaii and this year's Grant in Aid,Ad-Hoc Committee for the financial assistance and
awards. This year's process, while different, aspires to be a catalyst for positive change across many sectors and lays the
foundation for better collaboration between, public, private, and philanthropic partnerships.
Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra Society applied for grant consideration on two programs which would bring free orchestral
music to residents of Hawaii. We especially ask for reconsideration on the$5000 grant which would fund music education in
our public schools. This program has been in existence since 2017 and the County of Hawaii (now WaiWai) has funded it for
many years. This program is the only one of its kind which brings music appreciation directly into the elementary schools
providing music education equitably to all students without needing to leave school for private music education.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Brenda McConnell ra
