Subject:Waiwai grant in aid application-West Hawaii Mediation Center
RE: Communication No. 633.6
Councilmember Sue Lee Loy, Chair, and members of the Human Services and Social Services Committee:
I write to offer my support of two grant applications from West Hawaii Mediation Center (WHMC), for Community
Mediation ($15,000) and Peer Mediation ($10,000). I am a volunteer mediatior with WHMC, and Vice President of its
Board of Directors.
The committee's recommendation to fund WHMC's programs has my full support. This year's process will be a
catalyst for positive change across many sectors and lays the foundation for better collaboration between public,
private, and philanthropic partnerships. This fits WHMC's purpose to help people and communities resolve
conflict. This year's Ad-Hoc asked thorough, thoughtful questions about critical needs facing our community and the
way our programs connect to those needs. WHMC remains a crucial partner in building healthy and safe
communities.
