Aloha e,
To: Councilmember Sue Lee Loy, Chair, and members of the Human Services and Social Services Committee:
RE: Communication No. 633.6
The West Hawaii Mediation Center(WHMC) is grateful to the County of Hawaii for their Grant in Aid Ad-Hoc
Committee for their financial assistance. I fully support the Committee's recommendation to provide funding for
WHMC's programs for Community Mediation and Peer Mediation. As a volunteer Board member(Treasurer) and
mediator I have seen how these programs positively impact our Hawaii Island communities.
This year's process may be a catalyst for positive change across many segments of our population. In addition, it
lays the foundation for better collaboration between, public, private, and philanthropic partnerships. This fits West
Hawaii Mediation Center's purpose to help people and communities resolve conflict.
This year's Ad-Hoc Committee asked thorough, thoughtful questions about the critical needs facing our communities
and how WHMC's programs connect to those needs. WHMC remains a crucial partner in building healthy and safe
communities.
Sincerely,
