Comm. 806-John C. Cross to Windward Planning Commission
Aloha council members,
It's come to my attention that residents on the windward side of the island are feeling that the mayor's latest nominee for East
Hawaii's planning commission may not provide the diversity of representation that's mandated and that they would like to see
(and deserve)for this important entity. The fact that both he and a sitting commissioner are connected to the Ed Olson Trust
is enough to ask Mayor Roth to find someone whose background and connections don't create consternation among those
whose voices they are meant to represent.
As is always the case, asking tough questions in a hearing setting doesn't provide the information needed for making these
kinds of decisions. Many nominees are well-versed in public speaking and can make their case well, yet they may still be the
wrong person for the job. Others may seem like those questions put them on the spot, which may not be a reflection of their
ability and qualifications to do the job. ti

Bottom line is that it seems most prudent to ask the mayor to provide another nominee for the position. =
