Dear Council members:
I am writing in support of Bill 167 to allow only mineral sunscreen(Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide) to be used on
Hawaii Island.
Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide have been proven effective for protecting people and safe for both people and
reefs.. All other chemical sunscreen active ingredients are not recognized as safe and effective by the FDA. The
chemicals in non-mineral sunscreen have been been either proven or are suspected to be harmful to corals and other
marine life.
Hawaii's reefs are precious and we must do everything we can to protect and preserve them. Passing Bill 167 is an
easy way to protect both the reefs and the people who enjoy them. Please pass this bill and set an example of good
governance for the rest of the US and the world:
