Rvft' Date MAIL' 3 1 Aloha Chair Maile David,Co-Chair Aaron Chung, and members of the County of Hawaii's Council: Myname is AmyFonarow. I am an ocean advocate, a former resident of Maui and Oahu, and an informal educator. I am writing today to respectfully request that you support Bill 167. The chemicals contained in non-mineral sunscreens are unhealthy for reefs and people, and as you know, healthier reefs lead to stronger surf breaks, more habitat for healthier schools of fish (not only to view but also to consume), a stronger economy which is currently based on guest retention,and-as Hawaii's reefs are fringing reefs-more protection for anything built on a shoreline. Chemical sunscreens have estrogenic effects which prevent reefs from continuing to reproduce. Please consider this when considering your position on Bill 167. Mahalo nui for your time! "Malama i ke kai,a malama ke kai ia 'oe." Sincerely, Amy Comm. No. h 1 1'211 Ref. To: P(Com Li' Ref. Date JUN m 1 7077
