Bill 167, an Ordinance amending Chapter 14 of The Hawai'i County Code 1983 (2016 edition, as
amended) by adding a new article relating to the prohibition of non-mineral-based sunscreen.
I am in STRONG support of Bill 167. Healthy coral reefs protect the Island's coastal infrastructure,
beaches and communities. The chemical compounds contained in non-mineral-based sunscreens inhibit
coral growth and degrade the integrity of our reefs. The purpose of this ordinance is to preserve the
health, safety and welfare of humans and the environment by allowing only mineral-based sunscreens to
be provided, sold,,offered for sale or distributed in the community. Yours very sincerely, Ronald E. Jarvis,
