Aloha, our island needs to get rid of non mineral sunscreens that are poisoning us and the ocean. Maui County
unanimously passed a non mineral sunscreen ban. The Hawaii Tourism Authority is urging people in Public Service
ads to use only mineral sunscreens.
Virtually every citizen and visitor I have spoken to over the past several months are heartily in favor of getting rid of
non mineral sunscreens.
The Hawaii County Council now has the great opportunity to do something that will benefit the land, the sea and the
people. There really is no down side to getting the non mineral sunscreens out of Hawaii. There are plenty of
zinc/titanium based alternatives and they have been recognized as safe and effective. Non mineral sunscreens contain
some really frightening chemicals! Please get rid of them. Stores only sell these products because they are still legal.
