Subject: support for Bill 167
Research has shown that chemical compounds in non-mineral sunscreen stress coral so that they are
more prone to bleaching. Together with the stress of warming oceans, sunscreen presents a real threat of
the health of the reef, which in turn protects Hawaii's coastal infrastructure, beaches, and community. This
ordinance aims to preserve the health, safety, and welfare of humans and the environment by allowing only
mineral sunscreens to be provided, sold, offered for sale, or distributed in the County. I submit my
testimony in strong support of Bill 167.
