If other non-reef friendly options are available at a lower price and people are not educated on the harm then there is a good chance they will use the cheaper option especially when on a quick vacation. Let's give them the options to help the oceans. Healthy coral reefs protect Hawaii's coastal infrastructure, beaches, and community. The chemical compounds contained in non-mineral sunscreen inhibit coral growth and degrade the integrity of our reefs. This ordinance aims to preserve the health, safety, and welfare of humans and the environment by allowing only mineral sunscreens to be provided, sold, offered for sale, or distributed in the County.
