One of the main attractions has always been the easy access to great snorkeling. Sadly, the Big Island reefs are not what they were 10 years ago. We know this is not entirely due to harmful sunscreens, but we think every step should be taken that can allow the reefs to become fully healthy again. One such step would be the adoption of Bill 167*. The purpose of this ordinance is to preserve the health, safety, and welfare of humans and the environment, by allowing only mineral sunscreens to be provided, sold, offered for sale,or distributed in the County. Healthy coral reefs protect the island's coastal infrastructure, beaches, and community. The chemical compounds contained in non-mineral sunscreen inhibit coral growth and degrade the integrity of Hawaii's reefs. We strongly support Bill 167. + Mahalo, Howard Warshaw From July 25 to Oct 3, 2022: Kanaloa at Kona#1002 !> 78-261 Manukai Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 Otherwise: 601 Mooreland Ave Carlisle, PA 17013 717-243-7568 *Bill 167 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 14 OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983(2016 EDITION,AS AMENDED), BY ADDING A NEW ARTICLE RELATING TO PROHIBITION OF NON-MINERAL SUNSCREEN Comm.
