.......‘... <br /> ....„‘51;,,?!!!!!!!! <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII -•i6 _ _ <br /> "• : /...-1...*: STATE OF HAWAII <br /> r!CF H" <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 453 22 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE DAUGHTERS OF <br /> HAWAII TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO PRESERVATION OF THE <br /> ROYAL BANYAN TREE PLANTED BY QUEEN KAPI`OLANI AT THE HULIHE`E <br /> PALACE. <br /> WHEREAS,the Daughters of Hawai`i is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose <br /> mission is to perpetuate the memory and spirit of old Hawai`i and to preserve the nomenclature <br /> and correct pronunciation of the Hawaiian language; and <br /> WHEREAS, in the 1880s,the Royal Banyan Tree at the Hulihee Palace in Kona was <br /> planted by Queen Kapi`olani from a cutting taken from a banyan tree at `Iolani Palace in <br /> Honolulu,which was a gift from Indian royalty to Queen Kapi`olani`s husband, King Kalakaua; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS,the Royal Banyan Tree at Hulihe`e Palace is a major feature and landmark <br /> of the Historic Kailua Village that requires a complete examination and extensive trimming to <br /> preserve its legacy and minimize any hazards to the community; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Daughters of Hawai`i is requesting funds to assist with epenses related <br /> to an examination, extensive trim, and preservation of the Royal Banyan Tree planted by Queen <br /> Kapi`olani at Hulihe`e Palace; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports programs that provide <br /> educational activities, and community events in a drug-free and alcohol-free environment, such <br /> as the preservation efforts toward the Royal Banyan tree at theHulihee Palace; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Liquor Control to provide a grant to Daughters of Hawai`i to assist with expenses related to the <br /> preservation of the Royal Banyan Tree at the Hulihe`e Palace. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
