These test kits, valued at approximately $91,120 will be utilized to provide testing options to low-income households, rural communities, and County of Hawaii staff that frequently interact with the public. REQUEST: Accept from the Hawaii Department of Health a donation of 8,000 Quidel Quick Vue C VI -19 Home Test Fits valued at $11.39 each for a total of$91,120.00. The kits are packaged two to a box. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED The Hawaii Department of Health aquired Qui el QuickVue COVID-19 test kits from the Federal Government through the Health Resources &Services Administration COVID-1 9 Testing Supply Program for distribution in communities free of charge to the end user. The target audience is low income households and rural communities where testing options may be limited. The Hawaii Department of Health offered test kits from this acquisition to the County of Hawaii for County employee use- The Civil Defense Agency views these test kits as a viable means to provide a quick method to test County employees who's job includes interaction with the public. The idea is to be able to identify cases of CVID-1 9 in the workforce in order to limit the potential exposure to the Caronavirus of both County employees and residents seeking County provided services. Civil Defense will account for and distribute these test kits to County Departments. In reviewing this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Committee on Finance for placement on its future agenda.
