RE: Bill 160
Dear Chair David and the Hawaii County Council,
With 430 member businesses and organizations, the Kona-Kohala Chamber of
Commerce brings the business community together to address key issues on our
island and in our state.
This year, we've identified HOUSING as a top priority and support housingrt
projects at all inventory levels in West Hawaii. This includes the development of CID
`I
infrastructure to support more housing along with an emphasis on improvements
in Hawaii County's permitting processes.
We support Bill 160 that amends Chapter 11 of the Hawaii County Code by adding a
new article relating to affordable housing production. More specifically, at least
$5,000,000 per year will be appropriated to the Office of Housing and Community
Development to facilitate programs that support affordable housing production.
Additionally, any remaining balance at the end of the year will be designated for this
purpose.
The Kana-Kohala Chamber of Commerce exists to provide leadership and advocacy for
a successful business environment in West Hawaii. Our vision is to enhance the quality
of life for our community through a strong, sustainable economy on Hawaii Island.
We ask that the Hawaii County Council pass Bill 160.
