Subject: SUPPORT for Reso 415-22 and Reso 416-22 (COH Council Hearing June 15th)
Aloha Councilmembers,
Sending this written testimony of FULL SUPPORT for these two PONC resolutions to enter into land
acquisitions (or conservation easements) of these important properties;
• 415-22 re 220 acre parcel at Wai'ohe within the Ka'ohe Ahupua'a in South Kona that is home to
'ohi'a lehua trees,the Vo (Hawaiian hawk), 'ope'ape'a bat(endangered Hawaiian haory bat) and
various other endemic and native flora and fauna species.
• 416-22 re the o.8 acre parcel including the Kakala o Kamoa Cultural Center in Holualoa, North
Kona as an important cultural heritage and educational site for our community members.
The Hawaii County's Public Access, Open Space, Natural (and Cultural) Resources Preservation program
has been a great success and we need to continue to support moving forward with all purchases that are
deemed worthy by the all-volunteer POMC commission. These properties were ranked #16 and #16 for
purchase last year and will hopefully be protected for the people, plants, animals, and cultural sites that
reside there and visit them.
Mahalo for your time and consideration. Hopefully these resolutions will be supported across the board
and additional PONC resolutions will be on the agenda across other districts in the coming months.
