The EPA, CDC, and WHO; as well as numerous scientists and dermatologist have documented that certain chemical ingredients used in sunscreens are harmful to many forms of life and have not been shown to decrease skin cancer. These products should not sold in Hawaii Island stores. Visitors and residents make the assumption that the products that are offered in our stores are safe for them and our precious marine life and environment. Currently, Big Island consumers are faced with a confusing array of sun protection products that at times feature misleading and blatantly incorrect manufacturer labeling such as "reef friendly" or "reef safe". Bill 167 would eliminate this consumer confusion and make it easier for them to purchase the safe products that they are seeking. You have the power to protect the aesthetic beauty and economic importance of our marine resources. You also have the power to help consumers make informed decisions about the sunscreen products they purchase here. Use that power, that was given to you by your constituents, to do the right thing and support County Bill 167. Mahalo, Vince Carr Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 Comm. No. -1-1 l Ref. To: r1 C!1 Ref.
