Subject: Support for Bill 167
Aloha Chair Maile David and Co-Chair Aaron Chum and members of the Hawaii County Council,
I am writing in strong support of Bill 167prohibiting non-mineral sunscreens. Healthy coral reefs protect our
island's coastal infrastructure, beaches, and community. The chemical compounds contained in non-mineral
sunscreens inhibit coral growth and degrade the integrity of our reefs. The purpose of this ordinance is to preserve
the health, safety, and well-being of Hawaii's reefs and the environment, by allowing only mineral sunscreens to
be provided, sold, offered for sale, or distributed in the County. We can protect both human and coral health with
Bill 167.
