We already know that our coral reefs are badly stressed and dying, from many environmental factors. We need to do everything in our power to stop stressing them out and killing them. The sunscreen companies know the evidence that their product is damaging, but what do they do, they reformulate to slide a toxic chemical under the law. As bad as tobacco companies. They don't choose to prioritize the reef, the future, the livelihoods of fishermen, the joy of people; these companies are choosing money and profits. Don't these executives have children or grandchildren? Do they ever get out in the world and enjoy its wonder, or do they just sit in dark rooms making deals and counting their excess cash? Just because some sunscreens are being taken off the market with this action, there remain many viable options for protecting skin. These chemicals don't "go away" even if you don't enter the ocean. They flake and wash off and eventually find their way into the environment, the ocean and will persist for very long periods of time. Tourism is promoted in Hawaii, an empty facade; tourists see the crappy infrastructure and impoverished swimming sites. We need to have the natural resources to back up the sales hype, impress people and lure them back. We can't do that with dead reefs. Page Else, Pahoa, Hawaii C= ;X Comm. No l 1 . Ref. To: eF.
